Coolant Pumps & Valves
Engine coolant pumps, inverter coolant pumps, and coolant flow valves all fail on Toyota hybrids over time. We carry common parts on the van and handle most jobs in a single visit.
Signs of a cooling-system problem
- Check Hybrid System or engine temperature warnings
- Reduced power or limp mode, low coolant
- Check engine light with code P1121 (coolant flow valve, 2004–2009 Prius)
- Code P261B (engine water pump, 2010–2015 Prius). Do not keep driving with this one
- Code P0A93 (inverter water pump)

What happens if I ignore a failing engine water pump?
The engine overheats, the cylinder head can warp, and the head gasket can fail, and coolant and oil start mixing. A pump is a small job; a head gasket is not.

Usually not, unless you need to pass state inspection soon. The fix is to replace the coolant flow valve and flush the system.
