Signs of inverter trouble
- The red triangle warning with the car still driving normally for short trips
- The car starts but will not go into drive or reverse
- Stalling while driving, then driving again once it cools down
- A burnt or electrical smell
- Diagnostic codes P0A93, P0A94, P0A78, P0A08, P0A09, or P0AA6

Is it the inverter or just the pump?
Often just the pump. The inverter water pump keeps the inverter cool; when it fails you get P0A93 and the car keeps driving for short distances. Ignore it and the inverter can overheat, which is a much bigger repair. We check the pump first.

Yes. Jumper cables connected backwards can damage the inverter and set P0A08 and P0A09. Red is positive, black is negative.
